Happy New Year all!
The traditional thought for the New Year is to think about what one wants to create in the coming year—and it even rhymes this year—what do you want to create in 2008? How cool is that? And yet, I notice that I enter this year with a different question. The new bigger question for me this year is, “Who do I want to create with in 2008?” It is a “who” question, rather then a “what” question. And it generates a completely different set of answers, obviously, and ones in which I notice I become excited about.
Who are the new clients I want to attract?
Who are the co-players I want to co-create work with?
Who do I want to have way more fun with?
Who is interested in a similar message?
Who is someone to go ask some support from?
Who is willing to be direct and honest with me this year?
And the list could go on and on. So, I invite you to begin 2008 with the “who” questions, rather then the “what” questions and simply notice the impact it has on your own level of passion, excitement, and joy. When we are working and playing with folks we want to be around, magic and miracles happen!
Here is to the “who’s” of 2008!
Blessings,
Rick

This has me thinking ‘oh what a relief, I don’t have to think of my New Year’s resolutions and feel guilty about missing most of them!’ I really don’t want to be creating my ‘to do’ list for 2008, and finding my pen poised over my page (fingers over keyboard?) not coming up with anything.
Shift to ‘who’ and it’s a much easier job. I know people I want to team with, steal ideas from (in a caring and sharing way), collaborate with, hunker down with in our foxhole when we mess up, succeed with and move our little part of the world with. And like the second foot landing, the to do list just appears.

Very cool! … and a very interesting way to think about the new year! In a way, the “WHO?” also makes it so easy because starting is the hardest part when setting goals, making resolutions etc. The “Who?” has an energy of “shifting” not “starting”…..we alrealy ARE….we are already BEING….and to shift and lean into what we truly desire feels so much more exciting, enticing and FUN then the feeling of standing on that thick black starting line of 2008…..looking forward with apprehension at taking that first step!
Thanks Rick for this new persective!!

Love it, Rick. What comes up for me is that so very many of us have things like “community” and “relationships” and “connection” as dearly held, vital values for us to live into. And your question invites us completely to LEAD with those as we look to the new year. I notice so much JOY bubbles up in me when I think about creating a whole year that’s around who I want to be/play/work/grow/love with! Thank you!!

No matter where you are in the world, we are all connected both metaphorically and litterally through technology. Those buzz words of “reach out,” “connect,” and “network” seem to date themselves as I now lump them together with more organic terms like RELATIONSHIPS and COMMUNITY. Thanks Rick for the reminder to “WHO” instead of “WHAT!”

Rick, for me this was Happy New Spring, new life, and fresh start living! You know that Chinese proverb- when the student is ready the teacher will appear and this student is ready to take in your message about the “who”. Your message speaks to me so clearly- it is from you and two other people whom have also touched my life have responded to you here! The “who” for me is the “who” is front of me AND the “who” that comes to mind frequently, but I don’t know why. That reminds me of the lesson you taught me… get clear about the “what” and the “how” will happen. A new lesson here- when you are clear about the “what” AND the “who” once again the universe provides just what you need to continue along your journey of purpose.
My journey is much richer and meaningful because of you!
With much love, joy & gratitude,
Jeanie
